Spanish victories in the Europa League: brilliant debut for Granada CF
A header by Jorge Molina into the back of the net after a set-piece play and a stroke of genius from Venezuelan Darwin Machís, both actions in the second half, allowed Granada CF to come back against PSV Eindhoven in the opening match of the Europa League and secure a victory (1-2) in their first group stage game of the European competition.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad offered a good performance in their debut in the Europa League and obtained a deserved victory in their visit to Rijeka (0-1), although it took too long as it came in injury time with a goal from Jon Bautista, who had just entered the field.
Paco Alcácer unlocks the match with a brace
In addition, two goals from Paco Alcácer, who entered the field in the 70th minute, unlocked the match for Villarreal against Sivasspor, in a game of back and forth that ended with a score of 5-3, in which goals were the protagonists and in which the Turkish team put the home side in more trouble than expected.
The goal fest and victory overshadowed Villarreal's moments of weakness, as they were able to show both their best and worst against an opponent who was not weighed down by the 2-0 lead after twenty minutes, but who couldn't overcome Alcácer's goal-scoring ability.
Kubo and Bacca's goals for Villarreal in the early stages of the first half were neutralized by Sivasspor with two goals in the final stretch of that period, and the first half ended in a draw (2-2). Colombian Bacca even missed a penalty.
