Quito -

Having an audience in Ecuador's first match for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers

is an option being considered at the managerial and local authority levels. The game against Uruguay will be played at the Rodrigo Paz stadium on October 13th and a pilot plan will be put into action so that fans can accompany the national team.

In an interview with TVC, Jorge Yunda, Mayor of Quito, advanced this possibility on Wednesday. "We have just approved a protocol for a pilot football match for the qualifiers of the national football team that will be played outdoors, with ventilation, and with biosafety protocols. We have to do a pilot test, we have to learn to live with this virus because we cannot hide for the next few years or until there is a vaccine that can protect all citizens," he said.

  • Conmebol designates referees for the first two rounds of the qualifiers; Ecuadorian referees will officiate the first matchday

This pilot plan would include the national team's match, which "will have an audience with open-air distancing, with entry and exit protocols, with a series of sanitary precautions that we also have to learn how to avoid contagion, not just isolate or confine ourselves, but also learn how to face the virus with safety rules, something that is perfectly possible today," he pointed out.

  • Conmebol has FIFA's support to count on the stars who play in Europe for the qualifiers to Qatar 2022

The proposal is being analyzed by the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE-n) that held a meeting with representatives from the Ecuadorian Football Federation, which would propose an audience capacity of 15%. (D)
