Garbiñe Muguruza says goodbye to the English tournament in Eastbourne
The Spanish-Venezuelan Garbiñe Muguruza has said goodbye to the English tournament in Eastbourne, a WTA Premier category tournament played on grass, after being surprised in the round of 16 by local player Johanna Konta (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
Muguruza, the only Spanish player left in the tournament, struggled with her serve against a rival who came from the qualifying phase and managed to get 11 break points throughout the 1 hour and 56-minute match.
In the first set, Caracas's player suffered a fatal break when she was down 5-4, although she recovered at the beginning with an initial 2-0 that she managed to maintain throughout the set. In the decisive set and with the score tied at 1-1, Konta raised her level to chain four consecutive games and cause a surprise among her supporters.
