Gerard Piqué refuses to apologize for his comments about Álvaro Arbeloa

The FC Barcelona central defender, Gerard Piqué, rejected apologizing on Wednesday for his comments about Real Madrid defender, Álvaro Arbeloa, and stated that he has "nothing to say" about the matter.

"I have nothing to say. I said he was not a friend, that he was an acquaintance and everyone interpreted it as they wanted. I believe I was quite clear about the matter. There is nothing else to say about it," said Gerard Piqué on the eve of his team's debut in the Club World Cup with the semifinals against Guanzhou Evergrande in the Japanese city of Yokohama.

The Spanish international also declined to comment on the tweet from Real Sociedad player Esteban Granero, in which he defended his former teammate Álvaro Arbeloa. "I don't have to respond to him. We are here to play the Club World Cup because we won the Champions League. I cannot control everyone's responses, they can do whatever they want," Piqué said.

Gerard Piqué responded last Saturday to a question from journalists by pointing out that Real Madrid defender, Álvaro Arbeloa, is not his friend but rather an "acquaintance".

Álvaro Arbeloa had said that he would see the center-back, whom he referred to as a "friend", in a comedy show called 'El Club de la Comedia' someday, after the Barcelona player joked on Twitter following the improper lineup of Russian Denis Cheryshev in a Copa del Rey match in Cadiz. Arbeloa, among the critics of the Madrid player, has been nicknamed 'Cone'.
