The Paraguayan Édgar Barreto officially wore the NEC Nimega jersey again yesterday in the 2-0 defeat against Cambuur Leeuwarden in the framework of the first round of the Second Division championship in the Netherlands.

The midfielder, who turned 36 years old on July 15 and on the same day his return to the institution that opened the doors of European football for him was confirmed, played as a starter and was booked at the 70th minute of the match.

The Paraguayan midfielder was at the Dutch club between 2004 and 2007, so his return to the team took place after almost 13 years. Barreto returned to NEC from Serie A in Italy, where he played for several clubs such as Reggina, Atalanta, Palermo, and Sampdoria.
