This Thursday the main media outlets in Europe reported what is almost a fact: Timo Werner, German scorer from RB Leipzig, will play for Chelsea next season, after almost having everything arranged with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Now, little by little, details are being revealed that made the 24-year-old forward change his mind.
Timo Werner was determined to sign for Liverpool after talking for a long time with Jurgen Klopp, however, the 'reds' could never reach an agreement with RB Leipzig and the player's release clause, which is 60 million euros (50 if they don't win the Bundesliga). That's a point against and Chelsea is willing to pay that amount, considered a 'bargain' for a quality player in an inflated market.
The other point to consider is the football issue. Jurgen Klopp sees his attack trident, formed by Salah, Mane, and Firmino, as immovable, and that would relegate Timo Werner to the bench. Aware of this, Frank Lampard, Chelsea's coach, contacted the German striker to explain how important he would be in his scheme and finally managed to convince him. Additionally, he offered him a juicy salary of 10 million euros per season.
Thus, Chelsea beat Liverpool and other clubs in the signing of the forward who, so far this season, has scored 31 goals in 40 matches. He is also the starting '9' for the German National Team.
