Captain of Barcelona and the Argentine national team, Lionel Messi, admitted that it was "disappointing" that the Copa America was postponed, but considered it "normal and logical" given the situation created by the new coronavirus pandemic.
"Delaying the Copa America was a huge disappointment, but certainly it was normal and the most logical thing," Messi assured this Wednesday on the Adidas sports brand website.
"The Copa was going to be a great event for me this year and I had a great desire to play it again," added the captain of the Albiceleste.
On March 17, Conmebol decided to move the Copa America to June and July 2021, which was scheduled to take place this year in Argentina and Colombia.
"It was tough when I found out about the postponement, but I understood it perfectly," Messi said, who after weeks of confinement like the rest of Spain due to the pandemic, has started training with Barza again.
"We cannot think about what we are leaving behind this year. It is better to think about the future," insisted the '10', who looks forward to the return of competition in Spain, where the League could resume on the weekend of June 12 with closed-door matches. AFP
