Edwin Congo, a Colombian former football player for Real Madrid, said after being released that he is innocent and that he is not involved in drug trafficking. The former player was arrested in an anti-drug operation and gave his statement to the police.

"I am very calm because I haven't done anything wrong, I don't traffic cocaine, I don't have cocaine in my house, I am in good health, I behave well with people and everyone I can, and today has been another day of teaching and learning," he explained on the program "El Chiringuito," where he is a collaborator.

After giving his statement for an hour at the police station, Congo assured that he has no connection to illegal activities. "I am innocent, I haven't done anything related to the sale or manufacture of cocaine. There is a logical indication because I am associated with a group of people involved in it, but that doesn't mean I have changed my life or done anything extraordinary. I am still the same person I've always been, I will have to know who I am with and where I want to go," said the Colombian, who is expected to be called before a judge in a long process.

From his home in Madrid, where he remains confined due to the coronavirus pandemic, he explained that this morning he went out for a run and when he returned, some police officers knocked on his door and asked him to accompany them. They then interrogated him and showed him photographs of several people he knows, including a fellow countryman with whom he has a business selling emeralds.

"They asked me if I had anything to do with cocaine trafficking, and I told them absolutely not. I try to do activities to earn a living and I have been involved with one of those people in the photos in a business with emeralds because he has all his licenses and can bring emeralds and gold from Colombia to here. I have tried to build a life of work through my friend, who is the one who generates that, he has the connection, and I have always tried to ask that things be done in writing and properly," added the Colombian. After the interrogation, he was released and returned home. "The important thing is that I am at home and I feel completely free of any trouble," highlighted the former Real Madrid player who played from 2001 to 2002. (Information from EFE)
