Aguilar suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on February 18, but a few hours ago the medical staff of Cruz Azul gave him medical clearance and he is already working on strengthening.
At 33 years old, he thought it would be difficult to recover from the surgery, but COVID-19 brought him a paradox. Although it is an uncertain time for society, it helped Aguilar gain time and he is now thinking about returning with Cruz Azul.
Cruz Azul is the leader of the Clausura 2020 tournament after 10 matchdays, which, according to Aguilar, has been possible because the group stayed strong.
"What happened with the departure of Pedro Caixinha from the bench and Ricardo Pelaez as sports director was strange. The problems of the board became public, but we were able to stay strong. After that storm passed, I see seriousness in the board," he said.
Pablo Aguilar has played 354 matches in the Mexican league and follows in the footsteps of great Paraguayan defenders who marked their style such as Dario Veron and Paulo Da Silva.
"They were the references since I was a youth player, they succeeded here and I knew that Mexico was the door I had to go through."
When talking about the greats in his position in Mexican football, the Paraguayan considered his compatriot Bruno Valdez as the best defender in the Mexican league.
Coming from the youth system of Sportivo Luqueno, Aguilar revealed the virtues of Paraguayan defenders.
"The mentality of the Paraguayan is to collide and use muscle, wait for the cross and score the goal, that's why the culture of iron defenders," he explained.
