Conmebol opens investigation proceedings against Jaime Estrada
After the complaint filed by Francisco Egas regarding his removal from the presidency of the Ecuadorian Football Federation during the April 24 board meeting, which left Jaime Estrada in charge of the FEF, Conmebol notified Estrada of the opening of investigation proceedings for "possible violations" of the Code of Ethics of the South American football association.
In a statement addressed to the Manabi sports official, in his capacity as vice president of the Ecuafutbol, the entity details that "in accordance with Article 61 numeral 3 of the Conmebol 2019 Code of Ethics, formal investigation proceedings have been opened, identified by the aforementioned reference number. According to the aforementioned article, this letter notifies you that you are part of the investigation process, which, at this stage, relates to possible violations of Articles 14, 16, and 26 of the Conmebol 2019 Code of Ethics."
The letter sent by Rudolf Fischer, president of the Instruction Committee, emphasizes that Estrada "is obligated to assist and cooperate truthfully, fully, and in good faith with the Ethics Committee at all times."
The executive is also reminded that "lack of cooperation" will be sanctioned with fines and disciplinary measures, as well as the "confidentiality" with which Estrada will handle the process, and the possibility of seeking legal advice.

According to the received communication, during the events corresponding to the April 24 board meeting and the extraordinary congress on May 1, which he led as president, Estrada would have violated Article 14 of the Code of Ethics, which deals with abuse of power; Article 16 on the duty of loyalty, and Article 26 concerning the protection of physical and mental integrity.
Some of the sanctions that Conmebol could apply to Estrada range from a fine of $1,000, as well as the prohibition from engaging in football-related activities for a maximum period of two years. (D)
