This year did not start well for Alianza Lima
Since the beginning of the Apertura tournament, the 'blanquiazules' did not achieve many positive results in Liga 1 or the Copa Libertadores, and to add to that, their former coach, Pablo Bengoechea, left the team.
Regarding this, there were many rumors that the 'blanquiazul' dressing room had caused his resignation. However, Leao Butrón, the goalkeeper and captain of the team, took the task of denying that version.
"Some idiots had the nerve to say that Rinaldo (Cruzado) and I set up a strategy against Miguel Ángel Russo, and that this year we also did the same to Pablo (Bengoechea)," Butrón said.
"We have to remind these ill-minded people that last year, when Russo was the coach, I was injured and not training. In other words, according to them, I would take my phone and tell the players to perform poorly," the goalkeeper ironized in an interview with N'Pelotas.
"And we have known Pablo and his coaching staff for three years, and more than professionals, we were friends. How could they even think that? Social media is wonderful, but it also serves for some people to write nonsense. I have never seen any 'set up' and I doubt I even know how to do one," Butrón fired.
Regarding this, he stated that this behavior wouldn't make sense in a dressing room: "How do you tell a teammate not to make an effort? We all make an effort, I think about the future of my family. If the coach fails, we all fail. So now that Pablo is gone and we're not winning, we're not going to say it's his fault, we all have the blame," Butrón concluded.
As a reminder, Leao Butrón was chosen as the best player in 2017, the year in which the 'blanquiazules' won the championship under Bengoechea's leadership, and then achieved two runner-up positions in 2018 and 2019.
