The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, reduces salary to zero
Goodell, whose earnings amount to $30 million with salary and bonuses, voluntarily reduced his salary this month, as informed by an anonymous source to The Associated Press.
The source spoke on Wednesday on the condition of anonymity since the NFL has not publicly announced the decision.
The league also applied staggered reductions in the base salary, beginning with the pay period ending on May 22. The reduction will be 5% for managerial-level employees, 7% for directors, 10% for vice presidents, 12% for senior vice presidents, and 15% for executive vice presidents.
In a memo sent to the league headquarters staff, Goodell said that no employee with a base salary below $100,000 per year will be affected by the reduction and that no employee's salary will be reduced below $100,000.
"We expect business conditions to improve and allow salaries on leave to return to current levels, although we do not know when that will be possible," said Goodell.
