Carrefour Renews Sponsorship of Vuelta Ciclista a España

The distribution brand Carrefour has renewed its agreement as the main sponsor and sponsor of the red jersey for the general classification of the Vuelta Ciclista a España for two more years, until 2016, as announced on Tuesday at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid by Carrefour's Director of Marketing, Miguel Angel Conesa, and the Director General of Unipublic, Javier Guillén.

"This agreement brings more stability and security for the growth of the race. Two years ago we started a race with Carrefour to continue together; today we start it so that this bond that arose in 2013 continues in 2016," said Javier Guillén at the announcement ceremony of the renewal.

In this sense, the Marketing Manager of the French company said that the "philosophy" is to continue in the Spanish tour "for a long time."

"We want to continue growing by being part of the Vuelta and being there," said Conesa, who indicated that the terms of the agreement are "similar" to those of the previous contract and that they will have a greater impact on parallel activities such as the Parque Vuelta, in which over 5,000 volunteers from the company were involved last year.

In addition to being the main sponsor of the Vuelta, Carrefour will also be present on the red jersey of the race, which in the next edition, ending on September 13 in Madrid, celebrates its 80th anniversary. Last year, Carrefour received the visit of one million people in the activities surrounding the race in hypermarkets, stage departures, advertising caravan, Parque Vuelta, and animations in the nearly 300 locations that the cyclists passed through.

In the 2015 Vuelta, Carrefour will mobilize the 'Food Truck', a vintage-looking restaurant truck that will travel the 21 stages of the race to showcase local and regional products.
