Amidst the 8-year suspension for the corruption scandal known as FIFA Gate, Swiss former president of the football's governing body, Joseph Blatter, gave an interview to the German magazine Bild in which he presents his arguments and suggests taking the hosting rights of the next World Cup from Qatar and giving it to the United States due to corruption accusations in the bidding process.
"The United States would be a great option, but they are already hosting the 2026 edition (with Mexico and Canada) and they also have the experience from 1994. They are capable, it's not science fiction. Japan is also a possibility," he said.
Blatter stated that it could not be any European country since the World Cup was held in Russia 2 years ago. Additionally, Europe already hosted the tournament in 2006 when it was played in Germany, where Italy, with Cannavaro, Pirlo, and Buffon, lifted the trophy.
The former FIFA president from 1996 to 2015 was also asked about the resolution of the Swiss federal prosecutor, who accused him and the president of CONCACAF of selling the broadcasting rights of the World Cup to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).
"The investigations are part of a conspiracy against me. It's incredible that the investigators saw the normal contract I had with the CFU over four years," he explained.
