José Luis Orantes, president of the Cafetaleros de Chiapas, is direct: "We could not continue in the next tournament", that is why he voted in favor of canceling the Clausura 2020 "because there was no possibility of promotion" and was on the side of the clubs that supported the proposal of receiving assistance from the Liga MX clubs, in exchange for modifying the competition format.
"All clubs are in intensive care and we are looking for ways to survive. We voted in favor of support from top to bottom, in order to survive, because the present and future of the club were unsustainable", explains José Luis Orantes, president of the Cafetaleros de Chiapas, to ESPN Digital.
"We all want promotion and if that were the proposal, that would be my vote, but today that is not the proposal and the Assembly of the First Division will find the ideal format for the development of Mexican football. It should be clarified that promotion was removed a long time ago with certification", he adds.
Orantes recognizes that, like them, other clubs in the Ascenso MX were not going to be able to continue in the next tournament and the second division was going to compete with seven or eight clubs.
"Under the current format, it was impossible for us to continue in the next tournament, under this situation many clubs are. I don't know which ones, but we were going to have a league of eight or seven clubs, it was going to be a ridiculous league. We needed support to strengthen the Ascenso MX", adds the president.
Orantes acknowledged that Cafetaleros de Chiapas has not been able to recover from the sporting promotion they won on the field in 2018 and hopes that the owners will reconsider the possibility of teams from the second division being able to reach the top flight.
"Taking away the sporting promotion is a burden that we have not been able to overcome, we won the promotion and they took it away from us, we remodeled two stadiums, changed stadiums, we came to Tuxtla Gutierrez, to the Victor Manuel Reyna, administratively we delivered everything that was asked of us and we are not certified, it's wrong".
