Clubs and academies unable to train due to COVID-19

Clubs, as well as football academies and schools, are unable to train in their own grounds due to the presence of COVID-19.

The coaching staff have encouraged their athletes to perform daily and double-session workouts at home, focusing on technical and physical movements, along with a proper diet consisting of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and vitamins, balancing the calorie intake according to the training effort.

So far, everything is clear. The question is, is there a loss in technical and physical aspects when training at home? Coaches, physical trainers, and doctors know that there is a loss of around 15 to 20%. How can such an impact be noticed? When training is carried out individually at home, technical references are limited, and aspects such as rhythm, gravity, skills, brilliance, peripheral vision, reflexes, ball control, dribbling, as well as goalkeepers' elasticity, flexibility, courage, reflexes, and reaction capacity are affected. On the other hand, in a practice on a regulation field, the necessary requirements in terms of teamwork, technical skills, physical conditions, and the tasks presented on the whiteboard are met.

In terms of physical preparation, the football player also experiences a decrease in performance of this percentage in aerobic and anaerobic endurance, strength, power, speed, coordination, balance, agility, and flexibility exercises performed at home. On the field, movements are more extensive and working with a partner or group is motivating, as well as the various games that enhance these physical capacities, which are evaluated based on their volume and intensity.

Knowing the lifestyle and behavior of athletes, it is clear that there will be a significant number of players around the world who, without being evaluated or tested daily, may neglect their invisible preparation, including sleep, rest, nutrition, and sexual life. Poor them.

If football resumes officially in July, we recommend a microcycle of seven days before competition begins. If the suspension continues for an extended period, the coaching staff must plan a new preseason. No more words... (O)
