Quito -

Clubs seek to face the economic blow caused by the lack of liquidity during this COVID-19 lockdown. At Liga de Quito, there is an agreement between management and players, who, for the "well-being of the club," will agree to a retention of part of their salaries, amounts that the board will then seek to replenish.

"I met with several leaders," revealed Esteban Paz, who announced the formula for the club to face the crisis.

"We talked about a percentage retention of the players' salary. We haven't defined that yet, but everyone agreed that these items should be temporarily retained, and then we will see how to pay that over time. The important thing now is that the money is enough for everyone," detailed the executive.

Liga aims to create a common fund with the salary retention, to which they will add one million dollars that they will ask Conmebol for as an advance payment for the "second away match in the Copa Libertadores." The plan is to pay appropriate amounts to the first team, youth teams, women's team, coaching staff, and administrative staff, "at least for a few months," said Paz.

"What matters is that the cash flow is maintained for some time, and then we will see how to recover because it is not easy to go to the banks now, it is difficult to get financing," he pointed out.

Football, in the background

The resumption of activities in the midst of the pandemic will have football as one of the most affected activities, according to Paz. "Football is in a very difficult moment because the last thing to reactivate will be mass events. Governments worldwide will limit the number of people who can gather in any setting. We are going to experience difficult moments in the whole environment of everyday life," said the executive.
