Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, is the greatest idol in the history of Santos, that's why most of us always thought that his heart belonged to 'Peixe', but we were wrong. The Brazilian legend, at 79 years old, revealed the name of his beloved club.
Pelé revealed - in an interview on the Pilhado channel on YouTube - his greatest mystery. What team is he a fan of? Before revealing the name of the club, the Brazilian assured that he developed his sympathy for that institution when he was a child. Long before becoming the legend of Brazilian football that he is today.
"Most of my friends and my father's friends were all Corinthians fans. All Corinthians or BAC (Club Atletico Bauru), or Noroeste de Bauru, but mostly Corinthians. And I don't know why I left Vasco (da Gama), I started to like Vasco and became a supporter", he said on the YouTube channel.
To the surprise of his interviewer, O'Rei reaffirmed what he had said. "I didn't become a Vasco fan, I am one".
In the interview that we share in the article, Pelé recalled that in 1957 he wore the Vasco Da Gama jersey in friendly matches played at the Maracanã. But that's not all. Those matches allowed him to reach the Brazilian national team.
O'Rei's life is connected in one way or another to Vasco. It was against this team that he scored his 1000th goal. It happened on November 19, 1969, in a match corresponding to the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa tournament, equivalent to the current Brasileirao, which was held at the Maracanã. That night, from a penalty kick, the Brazilian became a legend.
