Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) confirms that Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has suffered a stroke
The Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) confirmed tonight in a statement the stroke suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, and that her clinical condition is "as expected".
The Juventus footballer's mother was admitted to Nélio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal, Portugal, early this morning and underwent thrombolysis (a test to dissolve a blood clot) and thrombectomy (removal of a clot that blocks blood circulation).
To find out first-hand about his mother's situation, the footballer traveled from Turin to Funchal, where he arrived yesterday afternoon, along with his partner, Georgina Rodríguez, and his eldest son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr.
Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo said his mother is "stable and recovering" and asked for privacy for his family.
"Thank you all for the messages of support for my mother. She is stable and recovering in the hospital. My family and I are grateful to the medical team that is taking care of her and kindly ask for privacy at this time," he wrote on his Twitter profile.
Ronaldo was born in Funchal, where he trained as a footballer before signing for Sporting Portugal. His mother lives in this Portuguese island city. EFE
