Borussia Dortmund was eliminated in the third round of the DFB Pokal, being defeated 3-2 by Werder Bremen. Despite playing as visitors, the 'Yellow Storm' was favored due to its squad and being the current champion of the competition, however, they could not advance to the next round.
And although the criticism is directed at coach Lucien Favre for not including Erling Haaland from the start, there are positive points after this match. One of them is that the Norwegian striker scored for the fourth consecutive match, and another very important one was the goal debut of Giovanni Reyna, the 17-year-old American youth who entered the game in the second half and managed to score an amazing goal.
Reyna came in at the 66th minute for Dan-Axel Zagadou, and with his team trailing 3-1, he received a pass in the opponent's half from Julian Brandt. He evaded three rival defenders and sent a long-distance and curved shot into the corner of the goal. A fantastic goal that marked the 3-2 and gave Dortmund options to equalize, however, the scoreline didn't change anymore.
Despite the elimination from the DFB Pokal, Borussia is getting results from the bet on young players: Jadon Sancho, Achraf Hakimi, Erling Haaland, and now 17-year-old 'Gio' Reyna, who is already showing a lot of youth talent at the club.
