The referee's report of the 2-0 victory of Valencia against Barcelona has attributed the first goal of the match to Uruguayan forward Maxi Gómez. The goal, which was scored in the 47th minute of the game, came from a cross-shot by the Uruguayan attacker that hit the back of Barcelona defender Jordi Alba before going into the net defended by German goalkeeper Marc André Ter Stegen.
Maxi Gómez was also the author of his team's second goal, bringing his total tally to nine goals in the Liga Santander and one in the Copa del Rey. With these numbers, he solidifies himself as the top scorer of Valencia in the current season.
This was the second brace of the season for the Valencia forward, who missed a penalty against Barcelona in the 11th minute of the match with the score at 0-0. However, despite this error, he still found a way to score two goals.
