Japanese forward Kazuyoshi Miura renews with Yokohama FC

Japanese forward Kazuyoshi Miura, 48, and one of the oldest active professional footballers in the world, has renewed for another season with his current team, Yokohama FC of the Japanese Second Division.

In honor of the number 11 jersey that Kazuyoshi Miura has worn for most of his career, the club took advantage of today's date (11th day of the eleventh month) to release a statement at 11:11 (Japan time) announcing his renewal.

Upon returning to Japan, Kazuyoshi Miura became the top national scorer of the newly established J.League with Verdy Kawasaki, scoring 100 goals over eight seasons.

He has also played for the Italian Genoa, the Croatian Dinamo Zagreb, and the Australian Sydney FC. Kazuyoshi Miura was also the star of the Japanese national team (where he scored 55 goals in 89 matches) in the nineties, although at the age of 31, he was excluded at the last moment from the list of 22 players selected for the 1998 World Cup in France, the first one Japan participated in in its history.
