Babe Ruth did it again.

The bat used by the legendary baseball player to hit his 500th home run was auctioned off on Saturday for over one million dollars.

SCP Auctions did not identify who acquired the bat in the auction held in Laguna Niguel, California.

Ruth hit his 500th home run on August 11, 1929, in a game against the Cleveland Indians. According to SCP Auctions, the ball went over the right-field wall at League Park and landed on Lexington Avenue.

Ruth was the first of only 27 Major League players to reach that milestone.

He gave the autographed bat to his friend and former mayor of Suffern, New York, Jim Rice, in the 1940s. The family has had it for about 75 years.

Another bat that Ruth used in the first home run at Yankee Stadium in 1923 was sold for approximately 1.6 million dollars in 2004. (I)
