The Christ the Redeemer, the most representative symbol of Brazil, wore the Flamengo jersey on Friday night, the eve of the 2019 Copa Libertadores final between the Rio de Janeiro club and River Plate.
With a play of lights, the red and black jersey of 'Mengao' was projected onto the statue of Christ the Redeemer, the main tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro and which blesses the 'Marvelous City' since October 12, 1931.
"Sacred mantle. Literally," said the club through its social networks, along with several photographs of Christ the Redeemer illuminated by the colors of Flamengo.
River Plate, the current champion of the tournament, and Flamengo, hungry for international glory after reaching their first final in 38 years, face each other this Saturday at the Monumental Stadium, of Universitario de Deportes, a venue chosen with just three weeks' notice to replace the National Stadium of Santiago de Chile in an emergency.
