Paraguayan National Football Team defeats Bulgaria in Friendly Match
The Paraguayan National Football Team defeated their Bulgarian counterparts 1-0 in a FIFA friendly match played at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia on Thursday.
Miguel Almirón scored the winning goal with a left-footed shot from outside the box, securing a result that helps consolidate the playing style intended by coach Eduardo Berizzo.
THE MATCH
The Albirroja had a good first half against a modest Bulgarian side that hardly troubled Antony Silva's goal.
In the first minute of the game, Eduardo Berizzo's team threatened with a powerful long-range shot from Miguel Almirón that narrowly missed the right post.
Paraguay controlled the ball, linked up well in midfield, and attempted to attack from the flanks with the runs of Jorge Moreira and Blas Riveros on the right and left, respectively.
In the second half, Ángel Romero had a clear chance to open the scoring at 48 minutes, but his shot went inches wide of the right post.
The deadlock in Sofia was broken at the 59th minute. Miguel Almirón received the ball just outside the penalty area on the left, settled himself, and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that found the bottom corner of the Bulgarian goal, putting the Albirroja in the lead with a 1-0 score.
From that point on, Bulgaria showed more initiative but lacked clarity in the final third.
Berizzo's team had opportunities to extend their lead but failed to convert. The game ended with a 1-0 victory for Paraguay.
The Paraguayan team's second friendly match will take place on Tuesday, November 19, against Saudi Arabia at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyad, kicking off at 13:30 Paraguayan time.
It is worth noting that in the September friendlies, Paraguay lost 2-0 to Japan and won 4-2 against Jordan, while in October they lost 1-0 to Serbia and drew 1-1 against Slovakia.
