Real Madrid, to break their bad streak as hosts in the Champions League against Galatasaray

Real Madrid hopes to break their bad streak in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu this Wednesday against Galatasaray, where they have not won in over a year in that competition, since October 23, 2018.

Against Galatasaray, Zidane will not be able to count on Colombian James Rodriguez or Welsh Gareth Bale, who although they are training, will remain unavailable this week.

Real Madrid's journey in the Champions League has been marked by inconsistency in recent times, with a record of two victories in their last seven matches in the continental tournament. They won a 'final' in Istanbul, but have lost three of their last six matches in that competition, conceding three or more goals in each defeat and a total of thirteen goals against.

Real Madrid has not won in front of their fans at the Santiago Bernabeu since October 2018, with a struggle against Viktoria Plzen (2-1). Since then, they have suffered two defeats and one draw, conceding nine goals in their stadium. They followed the 0-3 loss to CSKA in the last group stage with the unexpected rout against Ajax (1-4), which led to their elimination in the Round of 16 after winning in Amsterdam.

They could only manage a draw against Brugge

This season, the return of the Champions League to the Bernabeu did not improve the situation and Real Madrid continued with their problems. They conceded two goals in the first half against Club Brugge, although they managed to equalize with a strong reaction in the second half with goals from Sergio Ramos and Casemiro (2-2).

Before those two consecutive defeats at the Bernabeu against CSKA and Ajax, the Madrid team had never suffered back-to-back losses in the Champions League at their stadium.

Real Madrid's worst streak

Their worst streak without winning as hosts in the continental tournament was three matches, between February and April 2000, when they lost to Bayern Munich and drew against Dynamo Kiev and Manchester United.
