Arsenal and Liverpool delighted the football world with an ode to attacking play and a match full of controversies, comebacks, excitement, and last-minute goals that ended in penalties with Liverpool's victory (6-5), sealing their spot in the quarterfinals of the League Cup.

Liverpool took the lead thanks to an own goal by the unlucky Mustafi in the fifth minute. The German's goal foreshadowed another nightmare night for Arsenal, who nevertheless recovered before halftime with three goals. The first of them, the most controversial, came from Torreira's feet.

Then, Arsenal's Brazilian forward Martinelli appeared with a brace before halftime. But when everything was smiling at Arsenal, a penalty in favor of Liverpool changed the face of the game, as James Milner scored the discount goal.

Arsenal's young full-back Maitland-Niles converted the 4-2 for the Gunners. However, a few minutes later, an amazing volley goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made Anfield roar. Then, Divock Origi scored a beautiful goal, turning around and shooting past Emiliano Martinez. Anfield exploded, but minutes later Joe Willock appeared to score the 5-4.

However, the final note was still missing, and Origi provided it with a sort of bicycle kick after the 93rd minute, taking the match to penalties. In the shootout, Liverpool sealed their spot in the quarterfinals and Arsenal conceded one of the cups at the first hurdle, further questioning Unai Emery's position. EFE
