The German strategist Jurgen Klinsmann will take over the bench of the Ecuadorian national team. This was revealed to EL UNIVERSO by a source from the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) who preferred to remain anonymous.

"They have already reached an agreement (with Klinsmann). Yesterday (Wednesday) they told Jorge Celico (who has been serving as interim) that there is already a new coach," he mentioned.

While another source from the organization pointed out that the possibility of Fernando Hierro or Jose Pekerman taking charge of the national team "came from Ecuador" and not from Spain.

Klinsmann began his coaching career in 2004, where he led the German national team in the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup, where he achieved third place. After rejecting the offer to renew Joaquim Löw, his assistant, he took over as German coach, a position he still holds today.

He had a spell at Bayern Munich in the 2008-2009 season and at Toronto FC (2010) as an agent for executives, before taking over as the coach of the United States, where he won the Gold Cup in 2013. The German has not coached since 2016.

Klinsmann has directed a total of 176 matches, achieving 101 victories, 32 draws, and 43 defeats (63.44% effectiveness).

According to an economic report from the US Soccer (United States Soccer Federation) in 2016, the last year Klinsmann was in charge of the national team, he earned $3,300,000 (three million three hundred thousand dollars).

"There is nothing concrete, just speculations"

On the other hand, Carlos Galarza, a leader of the FEF, stated in an interview with the press that "there is nothing concrete (regarding the new coach)". "Surely next week we will have more concrete news," he added.

He also assured that the new coach "was not at the stadium" watching Ecuador's 6-1 defeat against Argentina in Elche.
