Shane Mosley is close to signing a fight against OMB (Super) Super Welterweight Champion Liam Smith
As Mosley told World Boxing News, the boxer is very confident that he will come out victorious in the fight.
"I may accept the fight against Liam Smith, but they said there has to be a rematch clause."
"I have an offer on the table for early 2016 so I can't make it too easy for them. I told them that if the victory is close, they can have their rematch within 8 weeks or they will have to wait until October."
"But if I knock him out early, there can't be a rematch because the fans won't buy it and it would be useless to make it. If they approach me again and accept the conditions I just mentioned, there is a 100% chance of it becoming official."
"It would be a sold-out event and it will be my first fight in the United Kingdom"
Mosley comes off a victory over Ricardo Mayorga on August 29th by knockout in the sixth round.
On the other hand, Smith comes off a victory over John Thompson on October 10th by technical knockout in the seventh round. A fight where that belt, which was vacant at the time, was at stake.
If the fight against Mosley becomes official, it would be his first defense.
Mosley looked good in his last fight but it was against a veteran just like him. Now he will face a young and champion boxer, we'll see if he looks the same.
When he defeated Mayorga, he made it clear that he is aiming to become a world champion once again. Now that what he asked for appeared, he must take advantage of it because time is running out and he is already 44 years old.
It only remains for both parties to reach an agreement since the boxer nicknamed "Sugar" established the conditions for the clash to become official.
