Captain of Bayern Munich supports coach despite uncertainty about his future
The Bayern Munich has added another victory in the Bundesliga against Cologne to achieve a perfect record of ten wins in all the matches played in the regular championship. The Bavarian team already has 30 points, being the absolute leader with a 10-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund, but it seems that this is not enough to silence the criticism of Pep Guardiola.
Since the last transfer window, there has been speculation about the possible departure of the Catalan coach, and Carlo Ancelotti is already being mentioned as his future replacement, although the team is clear about their desire for him to continue as coach. Philipp Lahm, captain of the German team, spoke after the victory this matchday to express his total commitment to the coach.
Guardiola has the confidence of the captain, who seems to speak on behalf of the whole team. "The team's opinion is clear. We enjoy working together with our coach, and he is an exceptional coach. Everything else is not in our hands. All I can say is that the team would like him to stay," he confessed in the mixed zone.
Despite the support received from Lahm, Pep does not have the position guaranteed by any means. In the Allianz Arena, winning the Champions League would be claimed as their main objective, and the fact that they have failed in it in recent seasons would put him in the spotlight. The club would consider national championships insufficient and demand a continental title.
Lahm has already expressed the desire of the team, although he does not deny a possible departure. He acknowledges that the decision to stay is not in their hands but hopes that it will be so, even from next season.
