María Belén Bazo will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Peruvian reached one of the nine available spots for next year's competition during the RS:X Windsurf World Championship.
The national athlete, medalist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, ranked third among the countries vying for qualification and secured one of the spots along with representatives from Hong Kong, Brazil, Finland, Mexico, Japan, Turkey, Hungary, and Thailand.
"I am very happy with my result. Now I can fully focus on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," said 21-year-old Bazo in statements collected by the IPD portal.
"Thank you very much to my entire team heading to Tokyo 2020. We have been working very well for several months and all the effort is paying off. None of this would be possible without the great support of my coach, my family, my friends, and my sponsors," she added.
María Belén Bazo, with her confirmed qualification for the Olympic Games, will continue participating in the World Championship in Italy to "improve my result and climb positions."
