Sevilla's Expensive Signing Struggles to Impress

Last summer, Sevilla spent €20m on Rony Lopes, making him the most expensive signing alongside Jules Koundé. It was one of the 13 signings made by Monchi in the new project led by Julen Lopetegui, an investment in a young winger who had stood out at Monaco.

Despite scoring 4 goals in 29 games last season, the Portuguese player was expected to fill the void left by Pablo Sarabia, who was signed by PSG. However, he has only made 2 appearances so far this season, and has yet to convince the Basque coach.

He has only played for 41 minutes in those two matches, a poor record for someone who was supposed to be one of the star signings of the new season. Nolito, Franco Vázquez, and even Oliver Torres have outperformed him and have taken his place in the team.

"We have already used 22 players and after 5 matchdays, only two have not played. There will be times of more or less continuity for everyone," explained his coach in a press conference this week.
