The current PS4 console already has a touch panel on its controller. However, few games truly took advantage of this option to add new mechanics. Basically, PlayStation forced the development of exclusive games to make use of it.
However, Sony could take a step further in the development of its controllers. The next generation (PS5) could feature a touchscreen. Not only to perform actions in games, such as quick time events (QTE), but also to display relevant information.
The website patft.uspto revealed that Sony has patented a new 'Dualshock' with a touchscreen, which could even arrive for the PlayStation 4. Could it be that the company plans to compete with the Nintendo Switch by providing some portability to the PS5?
The biggest problem, according to comments on the Reddit forum, is that the controller's battery would quickly run out due to having to illuminate a screen. The development of the PlayStation 5 is more than confirmed, but for now, there is no official release date.
