Málaga CF advisor says the club is "in danger" if measures are not taken
The legal advisor of Málaga CF, Joaquín Jofre, stated that the club in the Spanish Second Division, immersed in institutional and economic problems due to which it has only been able to register 17 professional players, is "in danger" if measures are not taken, such as complying with the viability plan presented to LaLiga.
At a press conference with the sports director, José Luis Rodríguez Caminero, Jofre stated on Monday that said plan is already "in progress and we are working on it," and stressed that "the longer" they take "to execute the measures, the more difficult it will be" because "every day we come here, if nothing is done, the costs and revenues remain the same."
"We have to increase income and reduce expenses, like any company that has financial problems. As club workers, we present options so that this deficit situation does not reach where we have arrived, which is the non-registration of players," said their legal and human resources manager.
Al-Thani Salaries
Jofre specified that the club's owner, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani, "has many options on the table and he is the one who decides," and asserted that they, each in their area of responsibility, work "to solve the financial situation" and are not the ones who make "decisions".
He also admitted that, if the board of directors, made up of Sheikh Al-Thani and three of his children, were to decrease their compensation and the repayment of the nearly five million euro line of credit they have, it would be "another measure that would help solve the situation of the club."
For his part, Caminero, like Jofre, ruled out resigning and said that he has never thought about leaving, since his "job is to promote a club, in this case a squad" and "bring in players," and he is not going to "stop doing things."
Regarding the problems in the team's planning, with signings that could not be registered because Málaga exceeded the salary cap imposed by LaLiga, he said that "it is very difficult and complicated to train with players that you don't know if you will be able to count on."
For Caminero, the goal of the entity "is to compete like last year," because the Second Division "is a very complicated league, where the difference between teams is minimal and can decide a match," and he demanded unity from all levels of Málaga and that they "work together" as the only formula for everything to go "better".
