Atletico Madrid's defensive revamp

Atletico Madrid has had to completely reform their defensive sector. The departures of several of their pillars over the past few years, such as Diego Godín, Juanfran Torres, Filipe Luis, and Lucas Hernández, have forced the club, presided over by Enrique Cerezo, to be very active during the summer transfer market. And, honestly, they have done it effortlessly.

The center-back partnership, at least for now, is being formed by José María Giménez, who is gradually assuming the leadership role that his compatriot Godín used to have, and Stefan Savić. The Montenegrin, without a doubt, has been one of the best players in the start of the 2019-2020 season for the rojiblanco squad.

Other players like Mario Hermoso or Felipe Monteiro, who started in the draw against Celta de Vigo last Saturday at the Wanda Metropolitano, will have to wait for their chance from the bench. As for the full-backs, Renan Lodi and Kieran Trippier are becoming, with their own merits, 2 of the best signings made by Diego Pablo Simeone's team during the summer transfer window.

However, Santiago Arias is the one who has been most affected in the right flank of the Atletico Madrid's defense. The Colombian has been sidelined since the arrival of the British player from Tottenham Hotspur. Therefore, CalcioMercato ensures that Napoli (who already showed interest in the summer) and AC Milan (let's not forget about the Ángel Correa case) will do everything possible to incorporate the 27-year-old Colombian into their ranks during the winter transfer market.
