Half Marathon de Sables Returns to Peru
A race is coming back to Peru, specifically to the Ica desert, for a new edition of the Half Marathon de Sables. The race will take place from November 30th to December 6th and will bring together the top 500 runners from five continents.
The HMDS will cover 120 km of the Ica desert in 3 stages over 4 days. It will be a challenging test of self-sufficiency, showcasing the best landscapes of the Peruvian coast. The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Environment have been involved in the organization of the event.
For this race, the participation of 500 runners from 45 countries is expected, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, the United States, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Panama, Peru, French Polynesia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, among others.
WHAT AN ADVENTURE S.A.R.L. (WAA), the owner and organizer of the HALF MARATHON DES SABLES (HMDS), announced on the day of the event's launch that it will have television coverage from major networks such as ESPN, TV5MONDE, CNN USA, FRANCELETELEVISIONS, CANAL +, among others.
Some details of the race are that the route is secret and will be revealed to the runners one day before the event. The race will also avoid passing through exclusion zones of archaeological and paleontological value, which will be determined by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Environment.
As of now, 295 people from 36 different nationalities have registered for the race, including 28 Peruvians.
