Emelec and America de Quito await the ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) on the appeal of the LigaPro Appeals Committee's decision that the blue team return two points and deduct a total of four units from the capital team in the championship.
The appeal, filed in mid-May, was supposed to have a response this month, but as of Friday, September 6, the clubs still did not have a response to the case.
After round 11, the LigaPro Appeals Committee decided to overturn a ruling by the Disciplinary Committee that awarded three points to Emelec, after America fielded the ineligible player Onofre Mejía in a match against the blues (0-0, on the field, on April 28), a decision originally based on Conmebol's regulations.
A source from the blue club said that the TAS "has until September 29, 2019 (to give the ruling), according to the summary procedure in which this case was heard. But we know that the resolution of the TAS will be known before that date."
Emelec coach, Ismael Rescalvo, before the team's trip to Colombia (for a microcycle) also commented: "We are optimistic, but we cannot yet make an idea (about the two points), because until it is confirmed we still do not know anything, but from what we have been told there are positive expectations, there is hope and if those two points come our way it will be very good, as it brings us closer to the objective," he said.
Rescalvo and his team left for Medellin to take advantage of the days of suspension in the tournament and focus on the goal of trying to enter the top eight in LigaPro. (D)
