Clashes between the fan groups of both teams caused chaos and prevented the match from being played. The bus transporting Motagua to the stadium was attacked, and some football players were injured.

Three players from Motagua club suffered facial injuries after the bus they were traveling in was attacked on Saturday by Olimpia team fans when they were heading to play the Honduran soccer classic.

The attack on the bus sparked a fight between fans of both clubs - the most popular in Honduras with a great rivalry - outside the National Stadium in Tegucigalpa, where three people died and at least ten were injured.

"Three people died and seven were injured by gunshots and stabbings, one of whom is a child. Three of the adult injured are in critical condition," said Laura Schoenherr, spokesperson for the state-owned Hospital Escuela Universitario, to Reuters.

The injured players were Emilio Izaguirre, Roberto Moreira, and Jonathan Rougier, who had to be treated at a hospital, reported Motagua club.

"The Ultra Fiel fan group attacked our team's bus when it was on its way to the National Stadium and several of our players were injured by broken glass. This has to be severely punished by the corresponding authorities," Motagua earlier reported on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Olimpia president Rafael Villeda told local media that he will meet with the National League and Motagua leadership to decide on the future of the match.
