Ecuadorians Richard Carapaz and Jhonatan Narváez close to victory in the fourth stage of Vuelta a Burgos

The Ecuadorians Jhonatan Narváez (Ineos) and Richard Carapaz (Movistar) were close to victory in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Burgos, the Ecuadorians led the peloton in the final stretch, but Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural) took the victory and left them even off the podium.

The stage covered a distance of 174 kilometers between Atapuerca and Clunia. 1 kilometer from the finish line, Narváez was in the lead and escorted by Carapaz, the Ecuadorians made sure not to let Jon Aberasturi escape, as he was the decoy of the Caja Rural that had Aranburu (4h 07m 55s) free for the final sprint at 200 meters from the finish line.

In the arrival to Clunia, Narváez finished fifth and Carapaz sixth. The 'Locomotora' is in fourth place in the general classification, 28 seconds behind Colombian Iván Sosa (Ineos) who maintains the leadership with 15h 19m 51s, with one stage to go.

The route of the stage that concludes the Vuelta a Burgos will be 146 kilometers long, covering the stretch between Santo Domingo de Silos and Lagunas de Neila, with an uphill finish that could be favorable for Carapaz, in search of his first victory in Burgos. (D)
