At the Microsoft conference at E3 2017, one of the announcements that took place was that Minecraft was going to receive one of its most important updates that same year in the fall. Specifically, it was going to introduce the Super Duper Graphics Pack, but time has passed and since then we haven't heard any news about this pack, something we now know why.
Mojang has issued a statement regretting the decision to cancel the development of this update, which aimed to completely improve the visual aspect and resolution of the game to reach 4K with HDR.
It seems that it was a very ambitious idea and has proved to be too demanding, technically speaking, to be implemented without problems. The team is not satisfied with the result that has been obtained so far on all platforms, so they have decided to completely discard it.
Mojang's new goal is to think of new ideas for players to enjoy Minecraft with a new look, something they hope to provide more details about soon. In the meantime, let's not forget that they are also working on Minecraft Dungeons for 2020 and on the production of a live-action movie that is scheduled to hit theaters in 2022.
