Peruvian Success at Lima 2019 Pan American Games Leaves a Legacy for Surfing
After Peru's success in surfing during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, with three gold medals and three silver medals, the tournament will leave great legacies to continue cultivating the sport of waves in our country, such as the first High Performance Center in Punta Rocas.
"It's a dream come true for us that an infrastructure like this has been built (...) the facilities are top-notch. It's still not finished, but I'm sure that when it's completed it will be the best place to train in the world," said medalist Tamil Martino.
In addition, this place now has stairs to access the beach and stands from where the public can appreciate the competitions. "Before, it was difficult to go down and be comfortable (...) now everything is much cleaner," said Vania Torres.
"There are bathrooms, which we didn't have before (...) I think we will have many more high-level championships here," she added. The president of the organizing committee (COPAL), Carlos Neuhaus, expressed his satisfaction and indicated that the center would be the best in South America.
"The location here in Punta Rocas is privileged," he said. The champion, Sofía Mulanovich, was also present and stated that she was "impressed" by these facilities. "It's luxurious," she said.
