The Peruvian surfer did not win the gold, despite the effort made in the Stand Up Paddle discipline at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

She came so close. Vania Torres won the silver medal in the Stand-Up Paddle Surfing event at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, after giving it her all. The Peruvian couldn't hide her sadness, as she had a successful performance during her heat.

"Winning the silver medal is incredible. I know being so close to gold and having it slip through my fingers is... It has killed me. I ran and gave it my all," Vania said, after competing in the Stand-Up Paddle Surfing final.

Vania talked about the importance of institutional support for surfing. "Thanks to IPD and the Federation for supporting us so much, because we need it. Surfing has much more to give them. Let's go for more. This is just the beginning," she added.
