Ecuadorian Dominc Barona reached the semifinals of the women's open surfing event at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. With this, she secured her spot in the fight for the podium, reported the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee.
At Punta Rocas Beach, 'Mimi' won the third round of the competition against Mexican Shelby Detmers with a score of 12.24, compared to her opponent's 10.66.
The Ecuadorian surfer was very excited about her qualification. Her family surprised her, as her mother and sister traveled to Lima to watch her.
Now, 'Mimi' will enter the scene again next Saturday to face Peruvian Daniella Rosas for a spot in the final. The champion earns a ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
