The Chilean delegation that will compete in the 2019 Pan American Games had to face a difficult situation with one of its athletes. Equitador Mauricio González Calderón was separated from the team after testing positive in a doping control and will not come to Lima.

According to the Chilean Olympic Committee, the 32-year-old rider was suspended after the presence of Tetra-Hydro-Cannabinol (THC), a metabolite of marijuana, was detected in his body.

This result immediately led to his removal from the Chilean delegation that will compete in the 2019 Pan American Games. Mauricio González was going to participate in the dressage category.

With this case, there are now three Chilean athletes who have been removed from the team due to doping issues before the start of Lima 2019. The cyclists Constanza Paredes and Andrés Silva were previously removed.

Equestrian sports at the 2019 Pan American Games include three disciplines (dressage, jumping, and eventing) and are one of the few sports in which men and women compete directly against each other. The competition starts on July 28 at the La Molina Riding School. (Andina)
