Vincent Janssen, the new reinforcement of Monterrey, has already played against André-Pierre Gignac at the national team level on two occasions, however, the Dutchman has fallen in both battles against the Frenchman.
The first match took place at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on March 25, 2016, when Janssen was with AZ Alkmaar and Gignac had been with Tigres for a year, the team with which he had won his first championship in 2015. On that occasion, both came off the bench, the Frenchman replaced Olivier Giroud in the 73rd minute, and the Dutchman replaced Luuk de Jong in the 81st minute. In the end, the French won 3-2.
They met again at the same stadium on October 10 of the same year, but this time it was not friendly, as they faced each other in the World Cup qualifiers. The now Monterrey forward was two months into his contract with Tottenham, while the Tigres attacker had just become the leading scorer in the Clausura 2016.
Janssen started and played the entire match. Gignac came on as a substitute for Kevin Gameiro in the last 10 minutes of the match, which France won with a solitary goal by Paul Pogba.
Now the Dutchman and the Frenchman are part of the Regiomontana rivalry and they may meet on the field in Matchday 12, which will be played on September 28 at the Estadio BBVA.
