Nolberto Solano was in Malta fulfilling commitments with one of his sponsors. In an interview, the popular 'Noby' once again referred to the possibility of replacing Ricardo Gareca and directing the Peruvian National Team if the coach says no to the proposal of the Peruvian Football Federation.
"I am in a waiting position for now because I am waiting for the result of Gareca's situation with the FPF," explained Nolberto Solano in an interview with Times of Malta.
Ricardo Gareca: another national team has 'Tigre' on their list of candidates
"If they offer me the job in Peru, it would be very tempting because it would be a great experience for me, although it will be difficult because after Gareca manages to qualify the team for the World Cup, the expectations will be higher for the team now," he added.
The former member of the Technical Command of the Peruvian National Team does not want to get ahead and now prioritizes Ricardo Gareca's continuity. "I really hope he stays as Peru's coach because he has given a lot to this team and still has more to give. He knows the players and the environment," he stated.
Nolberto Solano said that 'Tigre' brought a different mentality to the national team and that helped the team raise their level of play. "He convinced the players that their characteristics could lead Peru to the tournament in Russia," he pointed out.
"We hope to be part of a World Cup again because it is always a memorable event. Although we didn't qualify from the group, we are proud of what we produced, and this will give us a boost for future competitions," he stated.
