The England National Team once again took advantage of a set piece in their match against Sweden in the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. This time, Harry Maguire won an aerial duel against Emil Forsberg in the 30th minute and headed in a corner kick by Ashley Young, scoring the opening goal and putting his team up 1-0.
Previously, England had already scored from set pieces several times, especially in the rout against Panama in the group stage. However, they managed to score from the same route against the team with the highest average height in Russia 2018 and one of the most organized when it comes to defending.
The low-powered center by Young, which was aimed towards an area near the penalty spot, was eventually headed in by defender Harry Maguire, sending the ball into the right post of Robin Olsen. The Swedish goalkeeper couldn't do much to prevent his team from conceding in this play, although he had made several crucial saves throughout the first half to deny goals from the England side.
