Buffon joins PSG after 17 seasons in Juventus
Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, 40 years old, officially signed for PSG on Friday, aiming to reach new heights in his career in France after forging his legend during 17 seasons in Juventus.
Shortly after Buffon's transfer to PSG was announced, Juventus posted an emotional farewell video to their former captain on their social media. "Once again, thank you for everything," was the message of this tribute.
After ending his journey at Juventus by winning the double (Serie A and Coppa Italia titles), Buffon explained in a press conference last May that he would take some time to decide if he would continue playing, and if so, only in an elite championship.
"I am not someone who thinks it is right to end my career in any third or fourth-level championship. I am a competitive animal and in that kind of context, I couldn't live, I wouldn't feel comfortable," he admitted on the day of his farewell from Juventus Turin, considering the possibility of continuing to compete. Twenty-one club trophies and the World Cup won with Italy in 2006 already make him an eternal legend of football, but the goalkeeper feels that he can still contribute something to this sport and wants to continue proving it. For this reason, he signed a one-year contract with PSG, with an option for another season, which will extend his sports career.
