FIFA will suspend Ecuador if FEF does not apply the deduction of points

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will suspend Ecuador from all competitions if the federation of this country (FEF) does not apply a 20-point deduction in the local tournament to Deportivo Quito for a debt with Colombian footballer Néstor Salazar.

The FEF has informed that FIFA has requested them to "apply point 4 of the decision adopted by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on March 10, 2015 and therefore send us the proof of point deduction," although the team management has indicated that the debt with the player was canceled yesterday, Wednesday.

In a communication sent to the FEF from FIFA, it is stated that the possible sanction could result in "expulsion from all FIFA competitions" for Ecuador.

It is mentioned that "Mr. Néstor Fabián Salazar states on September 14 that the total debt has not been paid, therefore the request for imposition of sports sanctions is reiterated."

The vice president of Deportivo Quito, Patricio Salazar, expressed to the local newspaper 'El Comercio' that "making a superhuman effort, the debt could be canceled yesterday, Wednesday, through the Ecuadorian Football Federation directly to FIFA" and that "the player's lawyer is being notified."

Colombian Salazar reinforced Deportivo Quito for six months in the 2006 season, and the lawsuit filed with FIFA was for $97,000.

THE FACT: Ecuador qualified for the last World Cup in Brazil.

Ecuador was eliminated in the group stage of the 2015 Copa America Chile.
