Until before the match against Sweden, Carlos Vela had been one of the highlights of Mexico in the early stages of the 2018 World Cup. However, in the match against the Scandinavians, the Mexican forward did not have the best of his days.
In the first half, Vela lacked precision, although it was in the second half, at 80 minutes, when he missed the clearest chance to score. Just when the Osorio team needed a glimmer of hope to reach the round of 16.
As seen in images, the Mexican selection striker was served a cross. He tried to head it in when he saw the Swedes at a disadvantage, but luck was not on his side and thus, Osorio's team lost the discount.
With this result, Sweden and Mexico advance to the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup, while in the great surprise of the day, Germany, the current champion, has stayed only in the group stage, something that had not happened since 1938.
